Prepare yourself for another mission to Memlock, the battle for the moons reached a bloody stalemate, but with both sides gaining reinforcements the battle for Memlock itself hots up.

Bristol Vanguard are running their annual Horus Heresy event, with 3 games of 2,500 points being played over a single day on the 18th July.

Taking inspiration from the journal missions, the Memlock missions will combine both end of turn and end of game scoring to reward balanced army building and fun lists.

Vanguard run our 30k events with an expectation (if not outright encouragement) that newer players to the system attend as a way to ease into the 30k event scene, this means that whilst having a fully painted army is highly recommended, it is not a prerequisite for the event.

Keeping in mind that there may be some newer players in attendance we plan 3 hours for each game to be completed, with timings able to be adjusted should games finish earlier.

  • Lord of War detatchments are allowed within the points restrictions defined in the main rule book.

Army Modelling and Painting Requirements (and awards)

Whilst not essential, all players should attempt to have their forces painted to a Battle Ready standard.

In keeping with the inclusive nature of the event, painting awards are on offer for:

Favourite Squad (a single infantry or cavalry unit);

Favourite Single model (a single model from the army that is not a vehicle)

Favourite Vehicle (a single vehicle model from the army)

These 3 awards will be awarded based on public vote.

In addition, a Best Army award will be judged by the Vanguard Committee/Event Organiser team.

Key considerations FOR CONVERSIONS AND PROXY MODELS are:

  • Conversions should be of an appropriate size for the rules used (i.e. not using a Rhino chassis for a Land Raider)
  • Weapons modelled should be consistent in appearance (i.e. all lascannons should look the same) across the army.
  • Whilst the event is not strict WYSIWYG (nobody will be checking for modelled pistols and melta bombs), you should ensure that the main armament of squads and vehicles are correct (no proxies of plasma cannons as missile launchers on a HSS for example)

If in any doubt or if your army is highly converted, and to avoid any potential issues at the time of the event, please email the club with any questions and pictures of examples ahead of the event, so the event organiser can provide a ruling .

Sportsmanship Policy

Thankfully we’ve never had issues at our events but any harassment, bullying, poor sportsmanship or unpleasant behaviour will not be tolerated. We hope that any issues would be resolved between players at the table but if you feel uncomfortable or unable to resolve issues, please inform an EO as soon as possible.

The EO will usually provide a warning and guidance on what needs changing. If this warning is not heeded, or in cases of serious deviations from expected standards of behaviour, the EO may force a player to withdraw from the event and venue. Such decisions are at the EO’s complete discretion and are final on the day
